Frankfurt am Main is an incredible city in Germany. The metropolis excels in terms of economic, social, educational development. Nevertheless, despite its business activity, Frankfurt has plenty to do in its spare time as well. There are plenty of places to be active or relax in. But there are ones that everyone should see.

Main Tower, Maintainauer

Let’s start perhaps with the modernity, which is immediately apparent from any high point in the city. The tower has two parts. One reaches 200 metres and the other 170 metres. The structure was erected in 1999 and initially opinion was divided.

Today the tower is one of the highlights of the city, especially as it offers incredible views. There is a restaurant on the upper level as well as an observation deck.

Old Opera House

If you don’t prefer to spend your holiday visiting the different rooms, even if it is theatrical, you can get to know the Old Opera House Frankfurt from the outside. This is a must-do because such beauty is rarely seen.

The building work was completed in 1880. However, there have been several renovations and modernisations over the years. Only festive concerts are held in the theatre. Traditional productions have long since moved to the new theatre.

What to see in Frankfurt am Main

St Bartholomew’s Cathedral

This architectural masterpiece is 95 metres high. It was founded in the VI century and was repeatedly reconstructed due to attacks. In the 13th century, additional construction work was carried out, which, on the whole, made it possible to increase the size of the building.

The middle of the 14th century was marked by the fact that elections of German monarchs were held here. Some were even crowned within its walls. Today the cathedral is the Imperial Cathedral. Its main treasure is the top of the skull of Saint Bartholomew.

Hesse Park

Despite the urban orientation of Frankfurt, you can find something more old-fashioned, rustic and cosy there. The open-air museum is called Hessian Park. It preserves objects that tell you about the culture and traditions of the city.

There are a hundred or so different buildings on the site, providing a typical rural atmosphere. It is possible to enter the houses and get acquainted with the objects that are there.

Iron Bridge

The iron structure is one of Frankfurt’s trademarks. It connects the banks separated by the river Main. It was built in the mid-nineteenth century. The original purpose of the bridge was to provide convenient pedestrian access for the population. But later it was modernised and made suitable for road transport.

The bridge is 170 metres long. It is made in the neo-Gothic style. That’s why it is popular among art lovers. On each side there is an inscription made in ancient Greek. This is an additional feature of the construction.
