Fabulous Bremen: A place to live and relax
For many people, the German city of Bremen is only associated with the fairytale “The Musicians of Bremen”. That’s not a bad thing, as it even has a monument dedicated to its beloved characters. But the truth is, Bremen is much more interesting than just a city mentioned in a popular literary work.
Historic Centre
At the heart of the city is the Market Square. It is decorated with the Cathedral of St. Peter and the Statue of Roland, which is a symbol of independence. Witness, of course, the beautiful market square, which has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the short distance you can see the monument of the iconic fairytale characters The Town Musicians of Bremen.
Follow the Böttcherstrasse and you will come to the Schlachte Embankment. The street itself is very picturesque and partly conveys the unique atmosphere of Bremen. If you turn off the street from time to time, you can find yourself in the most colorful parts of the city.
If you get to the quay, you can see the sailing ship Alexander von Humboldt. Television commercials have made her popular, but that doesn’t diminish her dignity. It remains majestic, beautiful and in demand of original photographs. By the way, it operates a restaurant and hotel.
Alternatives to the hustle and bustle of the city
The Universe Centre gets everyone’s imagination working hard. For some it looks like a whale, for others like a seashell. What’s more, some look like a pistachio. But despite such an original exterior, the interior of the science centre is not at all inferior. What’s more, the inside is even more interesting.
Around 250 exhibits can be viewed within the science centre. The exhibits are divided into thematic areas. For instance, there are technical, human and natural exhibits. The centre is sure to excite both young and old explorers.
You can also visit the Overseas Museum where you can get acquainted with the history and features of other continents. If that doesn’t appeal, you can make your museum trip more original and head to the Airbus Centre. There you can experience not only aeroplane moments, but also space moments.
Cultural delights
For lovers of art galleries, Bremen also has a lot on offer. The City Art Gallery, for example, offers a selection of exhibitions. They change so frequently that one never gets bored.
If the facilities don’t appeal, there is also a street festival called La Strada. It is the time when the city centre of Bremen is transformed. It acts as a big circus arena where you can watch various artists perform.
For the more active, culture-oriented visitor, the Berminalais is a good place to start. It takes place on the banks of the Weser. There are a large number of stages where the best musicians take part. About 200,000 people come every year to enjoy the action.
